The Docx games: Microsoft Office World Championship

Last week's post focused on the global digital divide and I shared ways to begin looking at potential solutions to various obstacles surrounding limited access in countries.

Today's shared article is a great example of what can happen when access is widely available and promoted for educational use and career readiness.

Sam Dean of TheVerge.com chronicled his experience at the 16th Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) World Championship, where teens and young 20-somethings compete for the title of World Champion in their chosen professional application - Word, Excel or PowerPoint. The event is hosted by Certiport, a company that provides professional certification solutions to academic institutions and IT Professionals.

Check out Sam's article at The Verge. You just might reconsider your proficiency in Microsoft Office after reading. Teen tutors anyone?
